Andrew Minion
I’m back from my internship at Calvary Baptist Church in Elkins Park, PA—it was great! A couple of highlights: we had a week of EVBT (Evening Vacation Bible Time), with a number of kids. We went to Richmond, Virgina, with the junior and senior highschoolers for a missions trip, and repainted wooden staircases and a building for a rescue mission (disclaimer: I don’t agree with their website music). Then we had a week to finish preparing for youth camp. Camp Calvary was held at Promised Land Christian Camp in Conestoga, PA. We teamed up with Northfield Baptist Church in Northfield, NJ, and ran two separate camps in the same location. We had 54 highschool campers, and 41 elementary campers. I was cabin counselor for seven 7th-grade boys, helped run games, led morning devotions twice, and preached the evening message twice during the week. We had a bit of van trouble on the way back home, but got back safely. During the last two weeks, I worked on redesigning the church website.
We (Steve Hinebaugh was the other intern) got to make hospital visits (at one time, we had three different people in the hospital all at once), helped with a funeral, taught Sunday School twice, ran a youth activity, preached at church at least twice, preached at different nursing homes a number of times, and did general maintenance around church.
Now for a few weeks of work—I’m supposed to be working on a website for a Indiana state senator, running for US Senate. I’ll get to go to Ohio for a nice long weekend with my fiancée
, and then go back to school for my senior year! I’ll be an RA (resident advisor), and will be working in the Graphics/Design/Website department as I have been for two years now.
Lord willing, Holly and I will be getting married on May 15, 2010 (could you tell I’m a bit excited??) and then working on staff at ABC for a bit.
